I am a digital experience designer, creative technologist and academic working on consultancy, research, teaching and practice in digital experience design, creative technology, installations, mixed reality and augmented reality.

I am part of an R&D agency called the Immersive Storylab who are involved in projects looking at the way that immersive technology can positively transform public space. We are currently working on a number of Digital Placemaking R&D projects, experiments and consultancies across cultural heritage, transport, health and smart cities– thinking about the future of physical/digital hybrid place.

I also run the Immersive Liverpool network, which has done work around the future of audience experiences, healthcare, games and storytelling, connecting businesses to 21st century challenges and opportunities.

I currently work as a Senior Lecturer at Liverpool Screen School where I am setting up an MA Immersive Arts (covering Augmented Reality, Mixed Reality, Virtual Reality, Interactive Media, Future Screens and Projection Mapping). From 2015-2018, I was Senior Lecturer in the media department at Manchester School of Art where I led the curriculum development and underpinning ideas for the new School of Digital Arts, working across digital, creative and technology related course areas including games, UX design, filmmaking, animation, immersive media and digital arts.

From 2010-15 I was a Senior Lecturer in the Media Department at Coventry School of Art and Design working on courses in digital media, digital culture and media production. In this role I developed an interdisciplinary BA course in Digital Media exploring the intersection of storytelling, creative technology, digital design and digital culture. My research here hugely informed the development of the Disruptive Media Learning innovations and I led on a number of digital teaching innovations and projects (itunes u, mobile apps, mooc courses, podcasting and social media initiatives and digital archives).

I have also been involved in research and digital media projects with a wide range of organisations such as the BBC, BT, HEFCE, UNDP, NHS, JISC, the FA, Sport England, Virgin Radio, Aim Higher, Shakespeare Birthplace Trust and loads of SMEs. This also includes a number of UK and European funded Research Council projects where I have developed research in digital engagement, new digital platforms, digital archives and a load of other things.

I’m very much interested in storytelling and technology as a catalyst for change and am really interested in projects that make a little bit of difference to the places and enviroments that we share.

Find out more about the projects I have been involved in.
