About

I am a Senior Lecturer in the media department at Manchester School of Art where my current role primarily involves leading on the curriculum development for a new International Screen School, working across digital, creative and technology related course areas including games, UX design, filmmaking, animation, immersive media and digital arts.

From 2010-15 I was a Senior Lecturer in the Media Department at Coventry School of Art and Design lecturing on courses in digital media, digital media and culture and media production.

My research experience spans a range of areas including digital media production, immersive media design, creative technology, filmmaking and interactive media. I have led on the development of courses in Media Production, Filmmaking and Digital Media and developed an interdisciplinary BA course in Digital Media exploring the intersection of media storytelling, creative technology, digital design and digital culture.

My research is developed through creative practice in digital media, immersive technology development and education initiatives that use emerging technologies and digital environments. My current PhD research is around that way that immersive media technologies (mixed reality, virtual reality, augmented reality) can be used for engaging people in new kinds of storytelling experiences in the public realm.

I have been involved in research and practice with a wide range of organisations such as the BBC, BT, HEFCE, UNDP, NHS, JISC, the FA, Sport England, Virgin Radio, Aim Higher and the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. This also includes a number of UK and European funded Research Council projects where I have developed innovations in digital engagement.

I’m very much interested in multimedia storytelling as a catalyst for social change and I often undertake voluntary work for a number of creative community, activist and charity projects.
